Molybdenum Around 1980 a friend told me that at Brush Wellman near Delta Utah, he had operated one of their forklifts that needed no cooling system because it's engine was made of molybdenum. No matter how hot the engine got, no part of it expanded so it just kept on running. I've tried to run down the facts on this story with no results. With their resources BW could have built such an engine, but I think it is more likely it was dry film parts coating that was used.

@jamesp wrote about railroad granite. and unakite. With a little searching specimens worthy of your lapidary skills can be found. What is granite? The secret to amazing cabs is WHICH FELDSPAR IS PRESENT, especially those with schiller effects like the Plageoclase Feldspars, and how large the crystals are! For instance "Blue Pearl" is available from most tile suppliers. Another is ChestnutAnother Granite winner is Graphic granite. Your nearest and free supplier is whoever makes tombstones in your area. Happy Lapidary to you!

I like to call them granitoids Dave. Is that proper ? The railroad tracks have granite quarried from all over the state. tourmaline beryl garnets often of gem grade in some of it. Seems like better grade than average. Must be the pressure and heat. and how long it has been exposed to the weather. There is granite near me that can be crumbled in your hands. EDIT: I forgot your question. Wikipedia says:
