My drawings hit a major snag when I purchased a Staedtler Mechanical Pencil Sharpener invented in the 1960's. I couldn't get it to work. after breaking off point after point, I went back to sandpaper. I've since learned many others had the same problem. Unfortunately the solution is near impossible - "Read the Instructions." You can find the instructions here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=qlhItTXPf6kI had no idea what the small holes were for, nor that there was a SAW BLADE GEAR to cut the graphite. Here is what I learned: Those sharp teeth can dig into your lead and snap it off. I rotate GENTLY counter-clockwise a few times to gently wear into the lead, then rotate clockwise until I have the point I want.
