What are comets made of? That depends on when and where they were made. Take for example the Homunculus Nebula IC 2220 NGC 3503 because there are many similar areas in the universe. There is a pair of stars orbiting in the middle of the nebula - And these are the main elements available in the nebula - So the elements in a comet's core depends on the size of the supernova, which part of the resulting nebula, and how much frozen gas was gained as the comet traveled between stars.
