I have already started 5 books about this and couldn't figure out the best way to tell this story Until now.
I believe geologists have the end of Jurassic Time all wrong. Russian geologists know life prospered in their area during that period. Geologists in Europe and China find a few critters became extinct somewhere between 140 - 80 million years ago.
Here in the Americas some startling things happened, but they have ignored countless clues and drug events out over millions of years.
The shock waves radiate out from a place just west of the Great Salt Lake! Sandstone north of that area were metamorphosed into quartzite. Bingham Canyon was shattered, limestone turned to marble, sandstone to quartzite, rock layers slid on top of younger layers, the faults and fractures stuffed with copper, gold, silver, molybdenum, lead, all in Triassic and Jurassic rock layers.
Afterwords the area experienced some vulcanism. The area has now rebounded over a thousand feet in height.
ONE EVENT stands out. Geologists have labeled it the "Thin Skinned Sevier Orogeny" ~ 100 million years ago when old rock layers somehow slipped on top of younger rock layers. They blame it on the Pacific seafloor.
That was followed some time later by the "Deep Thrust Laramide Orogeny."
That does not compute with what I've seen out rockhounding.
This morning I started a new book finally finished, telling it from a different angle.
I made another image:
What happened 100 million years ago?
1 The Upheaval asteroid, traveling at ~20 miles per second from northwestern Canada, impacted Utah 30 miles southeast of Moab, surrounded by 60 MILE RADIUS OF impact funnels containing vanadium, uranium, copper. The Asteroid was the leading part of a COMET!
2. Shallow thrusting from northwestern Canada to Utah ended up shoving Utah over a hundred miles toward the southeast. The Dolores River was disconnected from the San Juan River and reconnected to the Colorado River North of Moab.
The Upheaval comet was the leading part of a much larger MIDAS COMET!
3. Northwestern Utah area was pressure and heat metamorphosed, sandstone into quartzite, limestone into marble, other rocks into skarn. At the same time, Utah was rumpled into synclines and anticlines.
4. Bingham Canyon received massive amounts of copper, gold, silver, molybdenum, lead, zinc, etc.
5. Shockwaves radiated out from Salt Lake/Bingham area to form the ground waves in sandstone layers to later erode into over 6,000 natural arches in sandstone layers from St. George to Moab.
6. Shockwaves radiated out from Salt Lake/Bingham area to form uplifted sandstone pillars from St. George to Moab. See Kodachrome basin.
7. The San Rafael Fault briefly stopped the deep thrusting THAT WAS SLIDING ON THE PARADOX SALT LAYER. Roberts Rift rebounded from the Colorado Alignment. A standing shock wave generated heat blasted 2,000' deep rocks to the surface over a 30 mile length paralleling the Colorado River.
8. California was repeatedly obducted onto the continent.
9. The entire thrusting area was covered with over 22 unique elements.
10. The area east of the thrusting was shoved down thousands of feet, creating The "intercontinental Western Seaway."
11. Jurassic Time Ended and Cretaceous Time began.
12. Tension built up in the Atlantic seafloor as north America continued to move west, began the Laramide Orogeny, over thrusting rock layers eastward.
13.Millions of years later an asteroid hit the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico.
14. The eastern area of North America rebounded to replace the seaway with the Rocky Mountains.
So to tell that tale I wrote this book!

40 years ago I noticed southern Utah experienced tremendous shock waves. Resulting ground waves undulated the sandstone. later erosion created over 6,000 natural arches. Shock vibrated water pools in sandstone. They arose to the surface, dragging the deep layers of sandstone with them to form huge sandstone pillars from St. George to Moab. See Kodachrome Basin.
When and Where did the shock waves come from?
