Sometimes the problem is your internal chatterbox. Things to do, things you didn't do, Problems, What if . . .
The mind's job is to think, and it loves doing it.
Combat it with the body's job!The body's job is to keep you alive! The reticular activating system in the base brain determines whether you should be awake or asleep. Any unusual stimulus tightens it up ane wakes you
Of all the body's jobs, which single one is most important? BREATHING!
Start a NEW ROUTINE. At bedtime 1. go to the bathroom. 2. take a small sip of water. 3. get in bed in a comfortable position. and 4. FOCUS ON YOUR BREATHING! That's it. Breath in, Breath out. In . . . out , in . . .
When your mind starts wandering again, and it will, bring it right back to breathing. THAT is the single most important thing right now. Without breathing you would die! Let your body be in control now. need to scratch or change positions, Do it! That need to yawn is the body's way of loosening up the reticular activating system. It is working.
Feel that breath coming into your body, cooling and drying your nostril limning. Then the breath going out, warming and moisturizing. In . . . out, . . . in . . . out, in, chest expanding. Out, chest contracting. In, drying, out moisturizing. Lungs expanding . . . That need to swallow letting you know it is working.contracting, expanding, contracting, In, out, in out, blood carrying the oxygen into your arms, stale oxygen going out. Into your legs, out, into your arms and legs, out. In to hands and feet, out.
In, solving the body's problems, out solving the body's problems, in, out in out. Push the mind away. now is the body's time. In, out.
Next thing you know it is time to get up, refreshed and relaxed.
